The Story

A major victory for Atheist in the United States Air Force!

Air Force officials have agreed to remove Bibles from rooms after receiving pressure by the Military Association of Atheist and Freethinkers (MAAF). MAAF’s goal is to contest “… insensitive practices that illegally promote religion over non-religion within the military or unethically discriminate against minority religions or differing beliefs.”

MAAF believes the presence of the Bibles in on-based military housing is “a special privilege for Christianity.”

After October 1^st 2012, the Air Force will no longer replace Bibles that are removed from the hotel rooms.

My View

Here we go! Another huge organization bowing to the demands of the minority. What about the feelings of the majority? I can guarantee you that there are many more people that like having these Bibles in the room than not. Besides, how does the Bible bother the Atheist anyway? No one forces these people to read the Bible.

U.S Marine Faces Dismissal for Anti-Obama Comments

Marine Corp officials are scrambling. This all came about because of discharge proceedings against Sergeant Gary Stein. These officials are seeking additional guidance from the Pentagon on a service member’s use of social media such as Facebook. A Marine Corp administration board concluded that Sergeant Stein should be given an other-than-honorable discharge for anti-Obama comments on Facebook. This would not only end his career, but would disallow Stein from any military benefits.

Stein has said that his comments are his own and placed a disclaimer on his Facebook page. His attorneys agree that he and other service members have a right to voice their opinions as long as they do not appear to be endorsing the military’ view.

Here is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I am a former active duty military and currently work for the Army as a civilian. Could my blogs, which allow me to speak my mind also cause trouble for me in the future? Do I also not have 1st amendment rights?

I do not agree with what is happening to Marine Stein. His oath of enlistment charged him to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” and “Obey the orders of the President,” Nowhere is there any evidence that this Soldier did not live up to any of these. He said himself that he would obey all “lawful orders” from the President. Just because he did not agree with the President, does not mean he does not respect his position and capable of following him. I have this discussion with liberal friends of mine all the time. “It is ok to disagree. Just because you and I do not agree on something, does not mean we have to be enemies.” There is no reason why an American Soldier cannot disagree with the political beliefs of his President and not remain a good and loyal Soldier. What are your thoughts?
